Just finished both seasons of Orange is the New Black. What can I say? It’s compelling in a way that not even Breaking Bad was. The first season is definitely the best. Chapman seems to have little to do in season 2 and I felt Taystee’s character took a major step backward. Laura Prepon (Alex) is good and her absence is definitely felt in the second season, but she’s a little like Kirsten Dunst in the Spider-man trilogy: fine I guess but you wish they would have tried harder in casting this role as she comes off kind of obvious and without much depth. I found myself enjoying my time exploring the back-stories of the other characters, and I particularly like how the show never condescends with story recaps or unrealistic character development. There are story arcs, and you need to pay attention unless you want to get left behind. Because of the extreme adult nature of the show, I can’t say I’d recommend it to just anyone. The show is raw and can be downright uncomfortable to watch at times, but it can also be touching and funny as well. It’s worth finding out if this is a show for you.
